Over 100 Fire Chiefs and Instructors braved the cold northern Indiana
temperatures and about six inches of snow to attend the 2008 leadership/instructor seminar in Syracuse Indiana.
Chief Gerald George started the morning off with an interesting presentation
about mission and vision of the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association. Chief George
then introduced State Fire Marshal Roger Johnson. Marshal Johnson presented the
case for dual smoke detectors in residential occupancies and where this issue is
going nationally.
Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana President Tom Hanify talked about
labor management initiative, meet and confer legislation. Tom's presentation
also talked about current legislative initiatives. IDHS Risk and Safety Manager
Gary Robison talked about the IDHS Foundation, USFA FIRE Act grants that opened
last week and the need to be reporting to the State NFIRS system.
IDHS Director of Training Joe Wainscott during the lunch presentation
talked about the Firefighter Certification system and Firefighter
Training System.
